Nostalgic Snacks: How To Make Cosmic Brownies

Homemade Cosmic Brownies are the Best

Hey everybody! I’m back with a special post since you already know that I started a new series called making nostalgic snacks from my childhood. This is my second post but Today’s recipe is going to be Homemade Cosmic Brownies.

So many people I know grew up eating store bought cosmic brownies but not me. We would usually not buy these kind of brownies growing up so we either had to get a box of brownie mix or just make brownies from scratch. I can’t even remember the last time I’ve had store bought cosmic brownies. This is just a guess but I would probably guess when I went to my grandparents house many years ago. That house would have all the munchies.

If you grew up eating or loving Cosmic Brownies, wait until you see this recipe because it will blow your mind due to the fact that this will beat store bought. It isn’t too sweet because I am using dark chocolate ganche on top instead of milk chocolate.

Store-Bought Cosmic Brownies vs. Homemade Cosmic Brownies

You guys are probably wondering these 2 questions. 1. What is the difference between Store-Bought and Homemade? and 2. Which one is better? Store Bought and Homemade?

Store-Bought Cosmic Brownies are very dense, chewy, and fudgy when it comes to the texture. It also has a super sweet flavor with mild chocolate flavor. Preservatives are also included by adding artificial flavors and processed fats. Homemade Cosmic Brownies typically use fewer ingredients and they aren’t as sweet. They are also richer, fudgier, and softer. It has a deeper chocolate flavor since I am using dark chocolate. It has a shorter shelf life but at least I am using real ingredients like real butter, eggs, and chocolate.

FYI

A couple of items I’d like to point out about this recipe:

  • Don’t overmix the batter. That’s how brownies turn tough instead of soft and fudgy.
  • Bake just until set. A toothpick should come out with moist crumbs, not completely clean.
  • Let the brownies cool completely before adding the ganache so it spreads evenly.
  • The ganache will set as it cools, giving you that classic smooth topping.
  • Add the rainbow chips right after pouring the ganache so they stick properly.
